We are the Convent of Our Lady of Providence Girls’ High School at 75 Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road, Kolkata. Our school was established in 1947 by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. It began by serving the children of Hindi-speaking workers in the city and has developed through successive stages while retaining its commitment to education and social responsibility. As a Christian minority institution, we connect learning with moral and spiritual development while welcoming a wider school community.
Our history includes the development into a full high school in 1994 and the transition to English-medium education in May 2005. In May 2025, the school marked another milestone through affiliation with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations. This progression reflects the changing educational aspirations of the families we serve. Our institution’s roots in access to education remain part of its identity as the curriculum and learning environment develop.
Our motto, To Love through Truth, expresses the values we seek to bring into daily school life. We give importance to physical, mental, social, moral and spiritual growth. Patriotism, national integration, appreciation of culture, fellowship and team spirit accompany intellectual learning. We want pupils to recognise that education includes how they relate to others and contribute to their community, as well as their achievement within individual subjects.
Our facilities include separate laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology, together with a Computer laboratory, library and audio-visual room. These resources support practical investigation, reading and different ways of encountering information. Drama, dance, music, arts and crafts, Karate and other activities broaden the opportunities available to pupils. Counselling support is provided when needed. The school day brings these academic, creative and personal experiences together in an established Kolkata setting. Through this combination of history, values, subject learning and co-curricular participation, we aim to help girls develop confidence, understanding and the capacity to take a thoughtful place in the world around them.
