We are Don Bosco School, Bandel, an English-medium boys’ school in Hooghly, West Bengal. Established in 1978, our school belongs to the Salesian educational community and follows the CISCE pathway leading to ICSE and ISC. Our identity is connected with the Salesians of Don Bosco, Kolkata Province, and with the wider Bandel setting beside the river Hooghly. We are a Christian minority institution whose educational tradition gives importance to character, discipline, self-reliance and personal values.
Our history began when the existing residential educational institution opened to day scholars under the Don Bosco School name. The school’s buildings and classes developed over the following decades, creating a broader educational complex. Junior and senior sections now form part of a campus that also includes an auditorium, library, assembly and audio-visual spaces. This history gives the school continuity while allowing its facilities and educational provision to respond to successive generations of pupils.
Practical learning is supported by Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer laboratories. The library provides a further setting for study and reading beyond the classroom. Audio-visual rooms introduce different ways to present and explore information. Our campus facilities include a playground, basketball court, infirmary and Bicentenary Park. These resources connect academic work with physical activity, wellbeing and shared school life, giving pupils several settings in which to develop their interests and abilities.
School events and inter-school activities have an established place in our community. The history of Don Bosco Bandel includes sports meets, quizzes, drawing activities, table tennis and musical celebrations. Bosco Xprezns developed as an inter-school meeting point, adding another opportunity for pupils to encounter a wider community. Our educational purpose is to combine sound academic preparation with habits that support responsible and independent living. In this setting, a lesson, a game, a performance and a shared school occasion can all contribute to a boy’s development. Our Bandel campus brings these experiences together within a long-standing Salesian tradition of education.
