Dr. T. Thimmaiah Institute of Technology (Formerly Known as Golden Valley Institute of Technology - GVIT) was started in the year 1986 at Kolar Gold Fields by Dr. T. Thimmaiah, Ph.D (London), IAS (Retired), as the founder President under the aegis of Golden Valley Educational Trust, with the sole purpose of imparting quality technical education.
Dr. T. Thimmaiah Institute of Technology is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) - Belagavi, Karnataka and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) - New Delhi, and at present offers Undergraduate Programs in Engineering.Vision

Late Dr. T. Thimmaiah, Ph. D (London), was the chairman of the Southern Regional Council for Technical Education for six years and was instrumental in granting permission to start new polytechnics and engineering colleges in the southern states. He was the Vice President of ISTE for two terms and was the Director of School of Mines, K.G.F. He was also the Director Board of Governors, Regional Engineering College, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. He served as the member of the Advisory Committee of Regional Engineering College, Calicut, and Kerala. He was a member of the Joint Board of Mining Education, New Delhi, Dr. T. Thimmaiah was the (Member Director of the Board of Management of BGML at K.G.F.).
He was responsible for thedevelopment of in-house expertise in Mining Management. He served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Shimoga District and as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka. As the Chairman and Director, he was responsible for the rapid all-round development of Mysore Minerals Limited. He was also the Managing Director of Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation, and during his tenure, he established Mother Dairy to supply milk for the entire Bangalore City. A lesser-known fact about Dr. T. Thimmaiah was that he was a good cricket player and had represented the state of Mysore in Ranji Trophy and played against visiting teams viz., M.C.C. West Indies, Australia, and Sri Lanka. He had attended the World Reunion of 50 years passing of graduates at University College of London. He was the author of the book "Coal Resources of India".
Dr. T. Thimmaiah was a Freedom Fighter and his entire freedom fighter pension had been earmarked to grant scholarships annually to poor and meritorious rural students of institutions belong to GVET.
Before his demise, he was bestowed with the prestigiousPriyadarshini Indira Gandhi achievement Award 2011 for the year 2010 for his outstanding contribution in thefield of education by International Peace & Integrity Society.
