Education
India Literacy Project (ILP) is a non-profit organization committed to achieving 100% literacy in India through innovative, community-driven educational initiatives. Founded in 1990 by a group of volunteers in the United States, ILP has since grown into a nationwide movement, working tirelessly to bridge the educational divide in underserved regions of India. With a strong presence in both rural and urban areas, ILP aims to ensure that every child, regardless of socio-economic background, receives access to quality education.
Headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, ILP collaborates with local governments, schools, educators, NGOs, and community stakeholders to implement scalable and sustainable literacy programs. These programs are designed to improve student learning outcomes, enhance teacher capabilities, and strengthen school infrastructure. ILP’s holistic model addresses critical educational challenges by focusing on early childhood education, primary and secondary schooling, digital learning, and life skills development.
One of ILP’s hallmark initiatives is the “Whole School Development” approach, which transforms government schools into vibrant centers of learning. Through data-driven monitoring, community participation, and innovative teaching tools, ILP fosters an ecosystem where students thrive academically and socially. The organization also runs volunteer-driven programs to mentor and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
India Literacy Project is deeply committed to the values of transparency, accountability, and impact. Its grassroots approach has enabled thousands of children to not only stay in school but excel and build a better future for themselves and their communities.
With more than three decades of dedication to literacy and empowerment, ILP continues to make a transformative impact in the field of education across India. By supporting ILP, donors and partners become part of a powerful mission to create an equitable and literate India.
