Indian Institute of Management Mumbai

Overview

We are the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai, formerly known as the National Institute of Industrial Engineering, or NITIE. Our institution was established by the Government of India in 1963 with support from the United Nations Development Programme and the International Labour Organization. Based in Powai, Mumbai, we connect management education with industry engagement and research across several functional areas.

Our academic interests include operations, analytics, finance, marketing, project management, human resources, information technology and sustainability management. Our degree programmes include the MBA, MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management, and MBA in Sustainability Management. Executive education provides further opportunities for experienced professionals, including programmes connected with manufacturing leadership and general management.

Sustainability education combines managerial and technical perspectives. Its subject areas include environmental management, safety, corporate social responsibility and environmental, social and governance frameworks. Students study relationships between operations, supply chains and business strategy, alongside environmental and social policy, greenhouse-gas accounting, sustainable finance and circular-economy approaches. These themes connect business decisions with their wider environmental and social consequences.

The institute's industry relationships help connect classroom learning with organizational practice. Logistics and supply-chain management are significant areas of institutional activity, including a Centre of Excellence focused on research, knowledge creation and capacity building. Applied research and industry outreach address operational questions and business challenges. Student exchange relationships provide an additional international dimension to the learning environment.

Our campus on Vihar Lake Road brings together postgraduate learners, researchers and faculty within Mumbai's wider business and professional community. Teaching, publication, executive training and consultancy form complementary parts of academic work. This institutional setting supports inquiry into both established management disciplines and newer questions involving digital transformation, advanced analytics and the changing organization of business operations.
