Education
In 1915, a group of passionate visionaries in Puttur recognized the urgent need for equitable education under colonial rule. By November of that year, they established the Puttur Vidyavardhaka Sangha (formerly known as Puttur Education Society)—formally registered on December 23, 1915.
Early Milestones
1916
Puttur Secondary School was launched, later receiving government accreditation in 1920–21.
1960
Community demand spurred the founding of Vivekananda College, with its foundation stone laid by Sri Nijalingappa, then Chief Minister of Karnataka.
1965
Vivekananda College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Puttur, established in 1965, affiliated with Mangalore University.
1986
Vivekananda Polytechnic, Puttur, established in 1986, offers diploma courses in six technical fields. It is recognized by AICTE and the Karnataka Government.
2001
Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur, established in 2001 and affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University.
2009
On January 12, 2009, it became Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur ®, reflecting Swami Vivekananda’s enduring influence.

Governance
An eleven-member Board of Directors, elected every five years, steers Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur ®. The President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are chosen from among these directors and may serve up to two consecutive terms (max ten years).

Growth of the Society
The Institutions working under Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha have emerged as the best educational centres since its inception. Over the last five decades, many new organizations have come into being. At present, 69 educational institutions are governed under the Union Administration.
