Education
Introduction & History
Mount View International Primary School & Early Years Centre (MVIPS) is a well-established international school located in the Maone / Limbe area of Blantyre, Malawi. It was founded in 1968 by the late Mrs. Sakker Sacranie, who envisioned a high-quality international education made accessible and affordable for local and expatriate families. The school is often associated with the secondary institution Central High International School, sharing the same campus grounds.
Academic Program & Curriculum
MVIPS provides education from early years (approximately 18 months) through primary levels up to Year 6 (i.e., children roughly 11 years old). In its Early Years Centre, the school follows the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, focusing on developmental domains, play-based and inquiry approaches. For the primary levels, the school employs the Cambridge International Curriculum (Cambridge Primary / Checkpoint) to ensure strong international standards and global benchmarking. The Year 6 learners typically sit the Cambridge Checkpoint examinations. The school aims to nurture well-rounded learners who think critically, creatively, and responsibly.
Student Body, Staff & Environment
MVIPS is a culturally diverse community, with over 500–700 students representing more than 30 nationalities. The school maintains a favorable student-teacher ratio by engaging well-qualified, experienced teachers and supporting staff. It also prioritizes ongoing professional development for staff, promoting modern pedagogical practices and innovation. The campus is designed with modern learning facilities including dedicated science, ICT, design & technology, art, and music rooms. In recent years, new amenities such as a swimming pool, yoga studio, and improved learning suites have been added to enhance the student experience. The school also supports a dynamic Learning Support / SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) department, and collaborates with external therapists for speech, language, and physical support.
Co-curricular, Clubs & Student Life
Beyond academics, MVIPS encourages holistic student development through sports, clubs, arts, leadership and community projects. Students engage in both indoor and outdoor physical activities, creative arts, and clubs aligned with their interests. The school’s positive behaviour management philosophy aims to cultivate respect, responsibility, perseverance, integrity, and teamwork. Regular events, excursions, and school celebrations are held to enrich students’ exposure and social engagement.
Admissions & Community Engagement
MVIPS welcomes applications from both Malawian and expatriate families. It positions itself as offering “quality education at an affordable cost” while maintaining safe, caring, and inclusive surroundings. Partnerships between staff, students, parents, and the community are emphasized to support student growth. The school acts as a “feeder” to Central High International School, meaning many students transition to the secondary program on the same premises.
Conclusion
Mount View International Primary School & Early Years Centre stands out as a reputable international primary institution in Blantyre, blending rigorous Cambridge-based academics, a nurturing early years foundation, strong support for diverse learning needs, and vibrant co-curricular opportunities. With its multicultural environment, modern facilities, and mission-driven approach, MVIPS aims to prepare its learners to become confident, compassionate, and globally-minded citizens.
