We are National Law University Odisha, a public institution in Cuttack established in 2009 under the National Law University Orissa Act, 2008. Academic activities began in the 2009–10 year. Our approach to legal education connects the study of rules and institutions with the broader social purpose of justice. We seek to place legal scholarship within the circumstances in which law is interpreted, applied and experienced.
Our five-year integrated B.A. LL.B. programme combines law with the social sciences and liberal arts. English, sociology, economics and political science provide important perspectives alongside legal subjects. This multidisciplinary structure helps students examine the social and political context of legal practice. The curriculum includes areas such as constitutional law, criminal law, jurisprudence, public international law and professional ethics, with further opportunities to explore specialised legal questions.
Our integrated B.B.A. LL.B. programme brings business administration into conversation with law. Its course plan includes accounting, organisational behaviour, management, marketing, business economics and strategic management alongside legal study. The combination gives students a framework for understanding organisations and commercial activity as well as the legal systems within which they operate.
Beyond degree teaching, our university supports legal research, faculty seminars, publications and student activities. Mooting, legal services, pro bono engagement and student societies form part of the wider academic setting. Our educational philosophy values socially relevant learning and encourages students to develop both intellectual independence and an awareness of responsibility towards others. Located at the Kathajodi campus in the CDA area of Cuttack, we bring legal education, interdisciplinary inquiry and engagement with society together within a university dedicated to the study of law and justice.
