PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), located in Shyamla Hills, Bhopal, is a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Established in 1993, the institute serves as an apex research and development organisation focused on strengthening vocational education and skill development in India.

The institute plays an important role in developing and supporting vocational education programmes across the country. Its work includes curriculum development, preparation of vocational textbooks and learning resources, teacher training, digital educational resources, research, and support for the implementation of vocational education initiatives. PSSCIVE also provides guidance to central and state governments in planning and implementing vocational education programmes and contributes to initiatives associated with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).

PSSCIVE covers a broad range of vocational and skill-oriented disciplines, including Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Business and Commerce, Engineering and Technology, Health and Paramedical Science, Home Science and Hospitality Management, and Humanities, Science, Education and Research. Its programmes and resources are designed to connect school education with practical skills, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and emerging industry requirements.

The institute develops vocational textbooks and digital learning resources for secondary and higher secondary education, including Grades IX and X and Grades XI and XII. These resources are aligned with job roles under the National Skill Qualifications Framework and cover sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, banking and financial services, engineering, retail, hospitality, and other vocational fields. This approach helps students gain practical knowledge and develop skills relevant to further education and future career opportunities.

PSSCIVE also places strong emphasis on teacher capacity building and professional development. The institute conducts training programmes, workshops, seminars, and practical learning initiatives for teachers, educators, school administrators, and other stakeholders involved in vocational education. Its recent initiatives have included training related to artificial intelligence and digital skills, solar energy technology, green technologies, robotics, electric vehicles, entrepreneurship, and the implementation of vocational education under NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023.
