About South Point High School

We are South Point High School at 82/7A Ballygunge Place, Kolkata, part of the South Point Education Society. Our institutional story began on 1 April 1954, when Satikanta Guha and associate founder Pritylata Guha opened South Point School with twenty children. The high school developed from that beginning and moved to its Ballygunge Place setting in 1970. We are a senior secondary CBSE institution, with affiliation number 2430109, and form part of the wider M. P. Birla educational community.

Our high-school programme begins from Class VI, following the foundational years at South Point School. This stage brings increasing subject depth and the development of more independent study habits. Pupils move from a broad school curriculum towards the choices and academic demands of senior secondary education. Our CBSE affiliation, obtained in 2011, provides the framework for this progression and for preparation at the secondary and senior secondary examination stages.

The school’s educational purpose combines academic achievement with all-round development. Creativity, personal growth and a sense of responsibility to society are part of the institution’s stated aims. School education can help young people develop their own abilities while also learning to care about other people. This relationship between individual progress and social responsibility has been part of South Point’s identity throughout its history.

Our long association with Kolkata is reflected in generations of pupils and families. South Point was recognised in editions of the Guinness Book of World Records from 1984 to 1992 for its size, a historical marker of the institution’s growth. Today, the connection between school and home includes digital communication through the school website and a parent portal, where families can access information and follow academic progress. Our history, recognised curriculum and shared educational values provide continuity as students move through adolescence towards further study. We see the high school as a place where subject knowledge, creativity and the responsibilities of becoming an independent young adult develop together.
