About South Point School

We are South Point School at 16 Mandeville Gardens, Kolkata, founded on 1 April 1954 by Satikanta Guha with Pritylata Guha as associate founder. Our first group consisted of twenty children. From that small beginning, South Point developed into an established educational community with a lasting connection to the city. We are an English-medium coeducational school managed by the South Point Education Society, part of the M. P. Birla group of educational and philanthropic institutions.

Our school provides the foundational stages of the South Point educational journey. Children subsequently move to South Point High School from Class VI, continuing within the same society. This relationship gives continuity between the early school years and the more specialised study that follows. The younger years are a period in which children build language, numeracy, reading habits and the confidence to participate in a classroom community. These foundations support the academic and personal demands of later education.

Our institutional aims combine academic learning with creativity and all-round development. We consider the development of personality, care for others and responsibility to society to be part of education. Children learn through lessons, but also through the experience of sharing a space, listening, expressing an idea and taking part in group activities. The wider school environment therefore has an important role in helping them grow beyond individual academic tasks.

South Point’s history is closely connected with Kolkata’s educational life. The institution’s growth was recognised in Guinness Book of World Records editions from 1984 to 1992, when it was listed for its size. This historical milestone sits alongside a more personal continuity: generations of children beginning their school lives within the same community. Communication with families is supported through the school website and parent portal, including access to information about pupils and their progress. Our identity remains grounded in the founding vision of care, education and responsibility, bringing the early years of learning into a wider pathway that continues through secondary and senior secondary study.
