We are Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Ulhasnagar, part of the educational initiative of the Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir Trust. The Trust is the education wing associated with the Art of Living organisation and was founded in 1999 by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Our school brings contemporary education into conversation with enduring cultural and human values. We consider intellectual, emotional, physical, social and spiritual development to be connected aspects of a child’s education.

Our pedagogy is organised around concepts, information and attitude. Concepts begin with observation and inference. Field visits, role play, practical experiences and mind maps provide different ways for children to understand an idea before moving towards more detailed information. This approach recognises that remembering a fact is more useful when the learner understands the concept to which it belongs. It also gives children opportunities to express an understanding through words, actions, images and discussion.

Information is explored through libraries, projects, debates, seminars, group discussion and challenging assignments. These experiences broaden the ways in which students encounter a subject. A project requires selection and organisation; a discussion calls for listening and explanation; a debate asks learners to consider evidence and alternative views. Our educational approach brings these experiences together so that learning can become active and reflective. Academic development is accompanied by attention to the attitudes with which children use their knowledge.

Inspiring stories, service, breathing practices and meditation form part of the values-oriented educational tradition of our school community.
