We are St. Mary’s Malankara High School in Sakinaka, Mumbai, managed by the Malankara Education Society. Our school grew from a community initiative discussed at St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church on 24 January 2004. Rev. Fr. Zacharias Nanthiattu led the founding effort, supported by members of the local parish. The purpose was to make education available to children in the surrounding community, beginning with a space beside the church that could be used for learning.
The school formally opened on 6 June 2004 with 120 pupils in St. Gregorios Hall. Community contributions and sustained voluntary effort supported the early development of the institution. Land was acquired during the second year, and the basic infrastructure developed over the following years. In 2015, an additional piece of land provided direct access to the main road beside the Metro line. Full recognition followed in 2016, marking another important stage in the school’s development.
Our mission is to provide education across differences of caste, religion, language and background. We recognise each child as an individual with different abilities and a personal pace of development. Our educational approach combines firm guidance with kindness and impartiality. Children need opportunities to build academic understanding, discover talents and develop confidence in their own abilities. Respect for their own history and culture is accompanied by an appreciation of the experiences of others.
Our campus is located at Mohili Village on Pipe Line Road in Sakinaka. The institution’s growth remains closely connected with the community effort that made its beginning possible. Our wider educational vision includes social support, cultural development, sport, games and yoga as parts of a child’s growth. We also recognise the shared responsibility of school and family in helping children become increasingly mature and independent. Our identity therefore combines a specific local history, a community-supported foundation and an inclusive educational purpose. We seek to create a setting in which children can develop knowledge, confidence and consideration for others as they prepare for continued education.
