The International Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, invites applications from qualified candidates for the post of Project Officer – Field to support field research operations under an ongoing national-level demographic or health-related survey.

📋 Position Overview:

Designation: Project Officer – Field

Number of Vacancies: As per project requirements

Duration: Initially for 6 months, extendable based on performance and project needs

Project: Typically under large-scale surveys like NFHS, LASI, or longitudinal health/demographic research initiatives

🎓 Qualifications & Experience:

  • Essential Qualification:
  • Master’s degree in Population Studies, Demography, Statistics, Public Health, Social Sciences, or related fields
  • Strong academic record with at least 55% marks
  • Desirable Experience:
  • 2–3 years of experience in large-scale field surveys or health/demographic data collection
  • Hands-on experience with field coordination, team supervision, and quality assurance
  • Proficiency in MS Office, data management software (SPSS/STATA), and field monitoring tools
  • Fluency in English and at least one regional language is essential

🔧 Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate fieldwork in assigned districts/states including scheduling, planning, and monitoring
  • Supervise field investigators and ensure data collection quality as per protocols
  • Liaise with local authorities, health officials, and survey agencies
  • Provide regular progress updates and resolve operational challenges
  • Support training sessions for field staff and ensure adherence to ethical data collection standards

  • Consolidated salary as per project norms of IIPS (subject to budget approval and experience level)

International Institute of Population Sciences

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, formerly known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) till 1970, was established in July 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations. It serves as a regional centre for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities. It was declared as a 'Deemed to be University' on August 14, 1985, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution. In 2006, the Institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee.

IIPS holds a unique position among all the regional population centres. It was the first such centre started, and it serves a much larger population than any of the other regional centres. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

There are seven Academic Departments in the Institute. The faculty members and the supporting staff belong to a diverse interdisciplinary background with specialization in some core areas of population sciences, trained in India or abroad.

The Institute is the hub of a population and health-related teaching and research in India, playing a vital role for planning and development of the country. During the past years, students from different countries of Asia and the Pacific region, Africa and North America have trained at the Institute. The alumni are occupying prestigious positions at national and international organisations, universities and colleges, and reputed non-governmental organisations. Besides teaching and research activities, the Institute also provides consultancy to the Government and Non-Governmental organizations and other academic institutions.

During the last six decades, the Institute has organized many seminar and conferences of National and International level in the field of population studies which are of worldwide importance. Institute had conducted many prime surveys like National Family Health Survey (NFHS), District Level Household Survey (DLHS), Assessment of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), YOUTH in India Project, Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS India Project), Research Intervention on Sexual Health Theory to Action (RISHTA Project), and Nutrition Surveys and Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI).
