Job Description:
The Department of West Asian and North African Studies at Aligarh Muslim University invites applications for the position of Research Assistant to support its ongoing research projects focusing on the socio-political, cultural, economic, and historical aspects of the West Asian and North African regions. The candidate will assist faculty members in conducting in-depth research, data collection, and analysis related to the department’s academic and scholarly pursuits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting comprehensive research on West Asian and North African studies including topics such as politics, history, culture, international relations, and economics.
- Collect, organize, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data through primary and secondary research methods.
- Support faculty in literature reviews, data entry, transcription, and preparation of research reports.
- Help in organizing seminars, workshops, conferences, and guest lectures.
- Liaise with academic peers, research institutions, and stakeholders involved in West Asian and North African studies.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to academic publications and presentations.
- Assist in grant proposal writing and project documentation as required.
Eligibility & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in West Asian Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, International Relations, Political Science, History, or related social sciences/humanities.
- Familiarity with research methodologies, data collection, and academic writing.
- Strong interest and knowledge in West Asian and North African regional studies.
- Ability to analyze historical and contemporary issues with critical insight.
- Good communication skills, proficiency in English, and preferably knowledge of Arabic, Persian, or related regional languages.
- Prior research or academic assistance experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience:
- Fresh graduates with relevant academic background are encouraged to apply.
- Experience in research projects, publications, or fieldwork related to the region is a plus.
